Weddings
For the first five years or so of my career as a photographer I was completely oriented to editorial photography. In those days, the late 1980s and early 1990s, wedding photography was a different field where the application of a formula was more important that creativity. I routinely turned down weddings.
Then one day a close friend called in a panic. Her personal secretary was getting married at the end of the week and had no photographer. She had already promised my services so I reluctantly agreed as a personal favor. I didn’t know the formula, so I approached it as I would an editorial shoot and to my surprise, I had fun. More importantly, the bride a groom loved their photos. A year later that first bride’s sister called to ask me to shoot her wedding. It was a rainy day, and not everything went as planned, but I loved it. I was hooked. More importantly, once again the bride loved her photos as well.
For a few years, although I enjoyed shooting weddings, I made no effort at all to find clients and just photographed weddings from referrals of friends and family of those first few brides. Sometime in the late 1990s when I found I was scheduling no less than 20 weddings a summer I decided to start calling myself a wedding photographer.
Now, almost 20 years since that first phone call I’ve shot countless weddings, some with as many as 500 guests, and two so intimate I was one of the witnesses. I am always honored to be included at such a personal milestone. I’d love to be a part of your wedding.
